Welcome to the new Blog of the Oxford University Hive.
The Hive is a debating and speaker society with its own unique format, quite distinct from Union debating, which promotes genuine and open discussion, audience engagment and is geared towards a collective attempt to get to the heart of the issue. Membership to the Hive is free and we provide wine at all of our events. To find out more about the ideas behind the Hive, take a look at the 'founding principles' section under the index.
The purpose of this Blog is to keep members up to date with Hive speaker events and to provide reading materials and resources for the debates we hold. The Hive Diary will also be posted here, detailing all the major political events, talks and seminars in Oxford for the coming week.
We also encourage readers to comment on the Blog: respond to arguments made at an event or start a new debate, suggest topics or speakers for future events or simply ask questions of the committee.

A get involved section would be a good idea - just letting people know how easy it is to join the committee. You could also add a meet the committee page, but that might put people off (obvious joke I know... and more importantly the committee might be too lazy to be met). Great new look though!
Also, if people knew about upcoming debates, and the committee put their research up, maybe some people could begin the debating process before the debate itself. Pre-emptive discussions might encourage people to be angry, forceful, opinionated and care about stuff, which is what the Institute of Ideas wants after all.
great new look cara. when is the next debate? im going to be meeting with my local tory mp who is shadow spokesperson for the environment who has set up loads of charities so i will ask him if he wants to speak for us. he was at oxford himself so i reacon he might.
This is a great website - but when I google "hive" or "hive oxford" I seem to get a different, older one first. Can anyone do anything about this? And could we have listing of debates happening soon? I'm too disorganised to remember when the e-mails say they're happening....
PS I'd be very happy to put up basic details of the next two debates, if it's allowed.
